Kluske’s Best Bite: An educational walk through the wonderful world of wild herbs – nettles, common grass and ground ivy are wonderful!
If you focus on certain things, from now on you will notice them everywhere. When you are expecting children, you see pregnant women all the time. A few days ago, at a small family gathering, I took part in a very interesting event grass hike in Riddagshausen took part Since then, I find ground ivy, garlic mustard, and ground elderberry on every corner when I go for a walk. And of course nettle, although, of course, I noticed this alleged grass even before the grass walk. Especially during weeding in the garden.
But the definition of wild plants and weeds is a matter of personal opinion, so I now recognize belligerent skin fungus growers as generous suppliers vitamin C and white. Also a good excuse for not constantly cleaning the fence in the neighboring area from wild nettles.
Nettle contains a lot of protein and is suitable for salads
Just look to greens as a food source for tough times. Because, as I learned during a short tour from forest educator Gisela, nettle poison neutralize by removing the stem towards the tip, not having the opportunity to introduce its dose into the skin.
Leaves prepared in this way become very tasty salad. Or at least a really healthy one, because surprisingly, 100g of nettles contain about two-thirds the protein of an equivalent amount of an egg. So don’t be surprised if the crowds bodybuilders wander through the forests for miles smoothies mixtures of collected greens.
Hirsch and Romana – a perfect mix
But let’s return to the already mentioned wild herbs. In general, the empirical rule applies: the younger the plants, the better they can be eaten. garlic mustard– ground elder leaves or ground ivy at this stage have a delicate structure and do not yet contain such pronounced bitter substances. Meanwhile, not only has our digestive system become quite feminine, but so has this sense of taste first you need to learn to get used to spicy tastes.
Another good tip is to mix smaller amounts of wild herbs with the known ingredients, i.e. about 100g of romaine with 20g gout grass. In the latter, the proportion of vitamins and useful substances is many times higher than in an overgrown salad, and the strong taste will also prevail, despite the small addition.
Important: collect in the hinterland, where dogs do not see
Making one is even easier Teas from wild herbs, which can be served both hot and cold, depending on the weather. For example, they use young shoots from Farmer with tender leaves, which are better to collect “in the hinterland”. In this way, you prevent not only an intrusive bitter note, but also unwanted extraneous aromas, if the marking line on dogs together. For two large cups you will need: a good handful of Gunderman – 4 slices of lemon – 2 tablespoons of honey
what tea water boil and turn off. Wash the ground ivy and place it in hot water. Leave to infuse for about 15 minutes and pour into cups through a sieve. These with honey and slices of lemon Add to. Add a few sprigs of ground ivy for decoration, preferably with flowers.
Gundermann resembles mint and licorice
In summer, serve cold in a glass with plenty of ice cubes. Wild grass resembles freshly picked and slightly chopped mint and sweet. The flowers have a sweet note and can also be used as a garnish or flavoring for many desserts. So you have a nice alternative to used mint paper.
By the way, flowers were an interesting topic in our trip, for example, I did not know that flowering dandelion consists of hundreds of small flowers.
